Mark Jones Headshot

Meet Mark Jones

Mark Jones is a lifelong public servant, former City Council President, and proud Jacksonville resident with over three decades of experience in leadership, education, and community service.

Mark’s journey in Jacksonville began in 1978 when he enrolled at Jacksonville State University. Since then, he’s built his life and career in the city – serving the community through both local government and statewide leadership roles. He was elected to the Jacksonville City Council in 2008 and, following a change in the city’s form of government, became its first Council President in 2012. During his time on the council, Mark helped lead efforts to build a new public safety complex and worked alongside the school board to support a new elementary school.

After his time on the council, Mark served as Director of Officials for the Alabama High School Athletic Association, where he managed thousands of officials across the state and represented Alabama on a national level.

Known for his integrity and ability to lead under pressure, Mark is running for Mayor to continue serving the city he’s long called home.

I believe leadership starts with listening. I’ve spent my career doing just that — and it’s exactly what I’ll do as Mayor.

Mark on the Issues:

Mark believes that a mayor’s vision should never be built in isolation – it should be shaped by the people it serves. His vision for Jacksonville is and will always be guided by the voices, concerns, and hopes of its citizens. Mark’s priorities reflect what matters most to the people of Jacksonville – and that’s exactly who he plans to listen to every step of the way.

Healthcare Access

Jacksonville residents deserve more than long drives and limited options—they deserve access to reliable, high-quality healthcare close to home. Mark understands that restoring emergency services and expanding healthcare access is not just a policy goal, but a community necessity. As mayor, he will work with local, regional, and state partners to pursue real, workable solutions that meet the city’s healthcare needs.

Economic Development

A thriving local economy starts with supporting the businesses that are already here. Mark will support our small businesses, cut red tape where possible, and help create an environment where new businesses want to invest and grow. His focus is on smart, sustainable development that strengthens Jacksonville’s economy while protecting the character of the city.

Infrastructure

A strong city begins with strong foundations. Mark will prioritize investment in roads, utilities, drainage, and city facilities to ensure Jacksonville is equipped to support growth, attract investment, and serve the daily needs of its citizens. He believes infrastructure improvements are not just about convenience – they’re essential for economic opportunity and quality of life.

Public Safety

Safety is the cornerstone of a healthy, thriving community. Mark is committed to ensuring Jacksonville’s police and fire services have the resources they need to protect and serve effectively. He will continue efforts to improve response times, strengthen relationships with department leadership, support public safety personnel, and keep our neighborhoods safe.

Open, Honest Leadership

Mark doesn’t believe in politics behind closed doors. To him, transparency is more than a campaign slogan – it’s a personal commitment. As mayor, he will provide regular updates on city priorities, involve the public in meaningful ways, and maintain an open-door policy to ensure your voice is always heard. He’ll lead with fairness, accountability, and a steady hand.

City Schools

Mark knows that strong public schools are essential to a thriving community. During his time on the City Council, he worked closely with the school board to support the construction of a new elementary school and ensure city leaders were aligned with the needs of educators and families. As mayor, Mark will continue to champion K–12 education and make sure Jacksonville remains a place where families want to live, learn, and grow.
